This month we celebrate three distinguished alumni whose careers exemplify the transformative power of education. Jessica Huang (Class of 2008) was recently appointed CEO of a Fortune 500 technology company, making her one of the youngest leaders in the S&P 500. Marcus Johnson (Class of 2012) founded a nonprofit that has provided clean water access to over 2 million people in East Africa.
Dr. Rachel Okafor (Class of 2015) received the MacArthur Fellowship for her groundbreaking work in materials science, developing biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastics. All three credit their university experience — particularly the emphasis on interdisciplinary thinking and community engagement — as foundational to their career trajectories.
The Alumni Association, now 145,000 members strong, continues to support current students through mentorship programs, networking events, and the Alumni Venture Fund, which has invested $12 million in graduate-founded startups since 2018. These connections between past and present students create a virtuous cycle of opportunity and achievement.
